My first caregiver support group meeting

I went to my first meeting of the Alzheimer's caregiver support group. It was really great! It's mostly just an opportunity to talk with other people about what we are going through. AC had a union meeting, otherwise he would have come.

Although it was sad to hear other people's experiences, it is very comforting to know that others are going through this too. There were some people there who have many years of experience with caring for a person with dementia, and they were able to offer valuable insights based on their experience. It also felt good to be able to offer my insights, and realized how important it is for those of us with experience to help others.

There are also some things you can talk about with other caregivers that you just can't talk about in any satisfying manner with anyone else. It is becoming more and more apparent to me that you just cannot fully understand the disease and its impact on loved ones until you become a caregiver.
