Partial diagnosis

So we had an appointment with a new geriatrician yesterday. She is a highly respected doctor and I've heard a lot of great things about her.

But she didn't tell me anything I didn't already know. She ruled out other forms of dementia and is quite certain it is Alzheimer's. Interestingly, she thinks medication will not be much benefit, as the illness is so advanced already.

A bit of an anticlimactic visit, but I suppose that's not a bad thing.
The doctor did tell my mom point-blank about her diagnosis. My mom handled it "well", which is to say, she didn't freak out and is now just quietly worrying about it, but she doesn't want to talk to me about it. She will probably forget that she spoke to the doctor after awhile.

The doctor is referring us to the Alzheimer's Clinic at UBC, but they have a six-month waiting list! I'm a bit baffled about what they could do for her, since the disease is untreatable, I suspect they use patients to gather more information about the disease in hopes of helping others down the road. They also do some kind of genetic testing to inform the children of Alzheimer's patients of their risk of inheriting the disease, if they want to know.
